Loving this light and airy version of my Gelato Blanket – Headed to Arizona!

My first square – made to set the color tone – brights mostly, with some pastel and dark purple/blue for some depth.
I often get asked if I plan the layout of this design. I don’t! I have never actually sat down in a notebook and “planned” a blanket, although I do with I were that organized! I reference my Etsy shop or my archives on this site if I want to look back and see previous layouts, but I never make two exactly alike.
Steps for layout are described in the pattern, but basically I work squares until I reach the desired width, and then work in an L shape until I reach the length. Then I fill it in with squares.
All finished – I really enjoyed making this. Usually I use the yarn held double to make it, but this time I didn’t since the recipient chose Standard Thickness. I love how it came out!
2 Tips for a tidy and neat granny square
Turn (flip over) the square after each round to eliminate any “turning” or “twisting” of the center
I like to use no chains in between each 3DC group (instead of chaining 1) and 1 chain in the corners (instead of 2-3 chains), because it really makes a more structured piece with smaller holes
